Interview Tips
Securing top candidates, even in a market where there are many people looking for work, is still a battle. You want the best person to accept your role. Hence we have a few tips for you to ensure that the interview process can be as successful as possible. This will give you every opportunity to be in a position that when the job is offered, the top candidate will accept.
Below are 4 easy steps to help you make the most out of the interview process:
Prepare for the Interview
It is very important to do research on the candidate before the interview. Review the candidate's resume ahead of time and write down questions that you would like to have answered during the interview. Our account managers are well versed on the candidate's motivations and "hot buttons" and will help you understand what is important to each candidate.
Structure the Interview
Follow a pattern, but also be reasonably flexible so the interview does not become mechanical. Be sure to allow sufficient time for the interview and candidate questions. The interview experience for the candidate should be run efficiently without interruptions since candidates react poorly to unstructured interviews.
Present Career Opportunities
Candidates want to hear about career progression, upcoming projects, training, and transferable skills they will gain that will help them in the future. Compensation and benefit issues should not be a primary focus during the initial interview. Contrary to what you hear in the media, money is not the primary driving force motivating candidates today.
Close the Interview
Let the candidate know they are a very strong candidate for this position. This will show the candidate that you have a genuine interest in pursuing them for the position. It is important to advise the candidate of the next steps in the interview process at this point.
